Bad purchase

"I have never used Cascade before and NEVER will again!
I purchased Cascade powder with bleach lemon scent and after just one use have a terrible film on my clear glassware that I now can not remove! I can feel a gritty residue on my other dishes as well, and my flatware is stained. The residue left behind is white and looks "baked on"
I have tried everything including soaking in vinegar, and have even gone so far as to soak the glass items in CLR. But once dry the film is still there.
I do not know what is in this stuff but it CAN NOT be good!

Will not use again.

"Used Cascade for years with good results.
Then I got a box "with extra bleach action" and "lemon sent," Not a good move. My aluminum baking pans don't like it, they turn dark gray with a powder finish. Hard to clean off. Living on the coast I have saw a lot of steel rust and aluminum oxidize and that is what it looks like to me.

We appreciate your loyalty to Cascade over the years and I'm sorry your not getting the same cleaning performance you expect. Our products are now phosphate-free, as required by new legislation across the whole industry. One benefit of Phosphates in dishwashing is its ability to help protect the surface of metals. With the removal of phosphates, discoloration on aluminum may now occur faster than before. It can be as fast as 1 wash when before it was over a longer period of time.

While it is difficult, it is possible to remove darkening. Try these steps:

1.Use a good aluminum (metal) polish on the pan.
2.Then boil a cream of tartar solution (2-3 tablespoons cream of tartar to1 quart water) in the pan for 15 minutes.
3.Finally, scrub with a soap pad.

It may also be helpful to know that discoloration does not affect the food being cooked. I still put my aluminum items in the dishwasher as I know my food will be fine. I hope this information helps. If we can help you farther please call us at 1-800-765-5516.

We would hate to lose you as a customer. We did undergo a formulation change to comply with state and local legislations that require that all automatic dishwasher detergents contain no phosphate. However, we would still expect great cleaning from Cascade.

Here's how to remove film from your dishes:

1.Fill both detergent cups with white vinegar and run one wash cycle without adding detergent.
2.REMOVE ALL METAL ITEMS from the dishwasher first and wash them by hand. (Vinegar is too acidic for metal items, but is safe for stainless steel dishwasher interiors.) Then run the glasses/dishes through an entire cycle with no detergent.
3.Run through another cycle, using Cascade to remove any vinegar residue.

Tips to prevent this in the future:

*If you have hard water try Action Pacs or All in 1 Pacs.
*Water temperature should be at least 120 degrees F. Run hot water at kitchen sink before starting the cycle.
*To prevent low water pressure, run dishwasher when no other water is being used (showers, grass watering, washing machine).

Hope you find this information helpful. Please give us a call if we can answer any other concerns for you.

White film stains on glasses

"Have been a very satisfied customer for many years. Never even thought of buying another product, and glasses were crystal clear with no rinse additives needed. Now the reformulated powdered detergent is leaving my glasses so stained with white film that I have to rewash them by hand when expecting company over. I now hold them up to see how bad they are when removing them from the dishwasher. I thought a stuck float and low water level on the dishwasher was causing this. I pulled the float up to clean it and it ended up breaking in the process. After the cost of replacing the parts the first load through ended in same white stains. Had I known the new version of detergent was causing this I would have been spared a lot of grief."

Your suggestions doesn't Work

"I have never had a problem with any of your products until now. I soak my dishes in hot water before loading and running my dishwasher. Before I start my dishwasher I always run the water until I see steam and I use a rinse agent. There may be only 10% of my dishes that doesn't have that white residue on it. None of the silverware come clean same way with my pots and pans. I am trying to wash my silverware by hand to get the residue off but it doesn't seem to be working."

"I used this product which I purchased at a Big Box store. Everything is ruined from my Tervis Tumbles, Pans and utensils. This product has left a white film on everything. We have always used Cascade for our dishwasher and I have been using the the packets for 2 yrs now. The one I purchased says Extra action with Dawn...you can keep your extra action!"

I'm sorry you feel your items are ruined. I can help. The residue you are reporting may be caused by the combination of hard water and the newly reformulated phosphate free Cascade. Starting in 2010 new state and local legislations require that all automatic dishwasher detergents contain no phosphate. So we removed phosphates to comply.

*Try Action Pacs or All in 1 Pacs.
*Add a rinse aid like Cascade Crystal Clear.
*Water temperature should be at least 120 degrees F. Run hot water at kitchen sink before starting the cycle.
*To prevent low water pressure, run dishwasher when no other water is being used (showers, grass watering, washing machine).

If you continue to have trouble , we welcome your call at the number on the package.

This product stinks

"This product leaves a residue on my dishes that I have to scrub after I have put them through the dishwasher. It says on the box leaves dishes sparkling. No matter how hard I scrub my dishes I cannot get the residue off. Plus not all of my dishes get clean like they used to. I should not have to scrub my dishes by hand after I "washed" them in the dishwasher. I am so frustrated."

worse purchase ever

"I have always used Cascade powder as my grandmother and mother before and don't ever recall a problem. Until my husband picked up a box of Cascade powder with bleach shine shield, I can say it is worse than any store brand he has managed to slip in on me before. It leaves an awful residual on all of the dishes and they don't seem clean. I am very unsatisfied and can not recommend it to any one. I hope if this is a new formula you change it back. I am considering changing bands at this point. I have always paid the higher amount for the quality, but in my opinion the quality is not in these boxes anymore."

Will stop buying this product after years of use

"Cascade used to be the only product I even considered buying. We shop at Sams and buy in bulk. We thought we had purchased a bad batch which can happen with anything and just delt with the watery bottles. We tried shaking them up thouroughly, and storing them upside down. We bought a second bulk purchase and to our surpise it's the same problem. The product is watery, NO gel. It runs out of the compartment and my dishes are not clean and sparkly like they used to be. I used to LOVE the way Cascade worked. Unfortunately, I will not be buying the product anymore, nor can I recommend it."

Will ruin your pans

"After I got on this website to contact customer service, I noticed many people have already complained about the same issues I experienced with this product. Why is it still on the market? Was it even tested before being sold to the public? This product is awful. Both my mother and I used this product and in turned our pans all black and discolored. As for the black spatulas and etc, they have white places on them. None of my dishes looked clean, and they all had a white film on them. I think everyone should be reimbursed for this product and compensated for the ruined pans."

I'm sorry that you and your mom both have dark aluminum. Cascade products are now phosphate-free, as required by new legislations across the whole industry. It may also be helpful to know that discoloration does not affect the food being cooked.

White film over all dishes

"We've been using Cascade Complete for years with no problems. We bought Cascade Bleach because of coupon and started to notice white film on all glasses, silverware, and dinnerware run through cylcles with Cascade Bleach. It's horrible looking. I thought it was our hard water but after going through all the tips on the website and still having the issue I checked the review section for this product and was very surprised. Every reviewer had the same problem as we are having! I'm extremely dissatisfied with this product. The worst part is we have a whole box and a half left of the stuff that leaves dishes dirtier looking than when they went into the dishwasher. What am I supposed to do about the pots and pans and silverware with this residue? Rediculous to even keep this product on the market."

"My dishes not only have a film, but the film coats the food on the plates/glasses that doesn't come off. I can't believe I'd ever say this again, but I'm going to start washing dishes by hand. Worst Cascade

"I have used Cascade since I've had an automatic dishwasher (many years). This is the first time I have not been satisfied with the product. This one leaves food residue on dishes, etc. Flatware & utensils have to be washed again, by hand to get them clean. If I have to wash everything by hand, what's the point in having a dishwasher. I have never had a problem with Cascade until now and am really disappointed. I hate to throw away this box. I've used only about 1/4 of it, but I need to find something that works and plan to purchase a different brand from now on."

"My husband picked this product up at a local supermarket. It was the only Cascade product on the shelf. This is the worst automatic dishwashing product I have ever tried to use. I'm sorry you had a filming issue when using the Cascade. As you may know we did recently undergo a formulation change to comply with state and local legislation that require that ALL automatic dishwasher detergents contain no phosphate.

I think you'll see better results with the tips above!

"I too, used this product for many years until about 10 months ago. For some reason the dishes started getting a white chalky film on them and i had to run the dishwasher with vinegar to remove it. I then started using the gel pacs which left a blue tint on my stainless steel that I didnt like, and I knew it was from the blue colored gel in the pacs. It however did not leave the chalky residue. So after trying many different cascade products together, I did, however, find that since I have hard water, putting the cascade with bleach powder in the first cup and cascade complete gel in the closed compartment, the two worked great together. Thats the reason I have to say I still need this product because of its bleaching ability, but I now have to use the gel too. So if you dont mind the extra trouble or expense, you might try it this way."

bad experience

"My wife recently purchased Cascade with Extra Bleach Action. After using it for the first time she commented on a cloudy film on all the crystal glassware and several black plastic utensils. She rewashed everything, but the film remained. I suspected that either alkalinity of the detergent or the added bleach was the cause of the cloudy film, so I soaked the dishware in vinegar and scrubbed everything with a nylon abrasive pad. The film was neutralized/came off with the vinegar.
After reading reviews by other consumers that have had the same experience with this product I would strongly recommend that you take it off the market immediately, before you lose any more of your long-time customers. My wife and I are switching to a different brand of dishwasher detergent as a result of this bad experience. If I still had my purchase receipt I would ask for a refund, plus the cost of the half gallon of white vinegar that I used to remedy the damage!"
