This stuff needs to come with a warning!!

"I have a brand new Kitchenaid dishwasher. I bought a box of Cascade with Dawn and my dishes were not clean. Was running the dishwasher twice. The dishwasher is only about 2 weeks old. I was planning on going back to HH Gregg to c.omplain about the dishwasher. Then today I washed some aluminum pans and cookie sheets. They came out almost black. One was brand new and had never been used before. This made me go to the internet and google aluminum pans and cascade. Well Cascade is certainly the problem. I've been scrubbing on my pans all day with brillo. They will never be the same. Most likely will have to throw them away. About $50.00 to replace. I haven't used Cascade in quite awhile I had a huge supply of Electrasol Gel Pacs. When I bought the Cascade it was on sale for about a dollar cheaper then the Electrasol.. That dollar is going to cost me $50 to replace my stuff. Good news is my new dishwasher is fine. Find it so hard to believe P&G would put out a product like this! Really considering boycotting P&G. I'm mad! My dishwasher came with samples of Elecrasol definitely should have stuck with it. After reading the reviews started looking at my silverware, it also has a nasty film on it. Not black like my aluminum items but not lean. Hoping I can get it clean. THIs STUFF NEEDS TO COME WITH A WARNING ON IT!!"

I have some information for you regarding aluminum. However, we are here to help. Please give us a call at 1-800-765-5516. Our products are now phosphate-free, as required by new legislation across the whole industry. One benefit of Phosphates in dishwashing is its ability to help protect the surface of metals. With the removal of phosphates, discoloration on aluminum may now occur faster than before. It can be as fast as 1 wash when before it was over a longer period of time.

While it is difficult, it is possible to remove darkening. Try these steps:

1.Use a good aluminum (metal) polish on the pan.
2.Then boil a cream of tartar solution (2-3 tablespoons cream of tartar to1 quart water) in the pan for 15 minutes.
3.Finally, scrub with a soap pad.

It may also be helpful to know that discoloration does not affect the food being cooked. I still put my aluminum items in the dishwasher as I know my food will be fine. I hope this information helps.

great product

"The cascade complete all in one powder always leaves my dishes, silverware, and glasses spotless and leaves no cloudy film or etching like the cascade powder with dawn ,which is a terrible product. It also always disolves completely unlike the action packs.Though a bit pricy, it is a wonderful product that I highly reccomend and that I will continue to buy!"

What happened?

"Bought a new box of cascade. Only thing I noticed at first was that the box was extremely heavy compare to years past. Almost felt like it had iron powder in it.
I used it as I always have in the past and when the load of dishes was done I noticed a distinct coat of white powder about 1-2 inches wide around most of the bowels and plates. Unbelievable. Furthermore, all the dishes felt like they've been rubbed in chalk rather than that squeaky clean feel in the past. I will never buy this product again."

I am sorry you are getting a film on your items. I am not sure why the box feels so heavy to you. It is possible the product came into contact with some bad storage conditions before it made it in to your home. Please give us a call at (800) 765-5516 so we can get some additional information from you.

Don't Need a New Dishwasher

"When we bought our house, an old dishwasher came with it. For a long time, I've been dissatisfied with how the dishes come out: foody, covered in a white film, spotty, etc. Recently, I thought I'd try a different detergent, Cascade Complete. What do you know? I don't need a new dishwasher! The dishes are bright and squeaky clean, and the glasses and silverware shine. Thanks for saving me a fortune."

White layer on all my dishes

"I've read more than one review regarding this, as many others, I've been using cascade for years, and it had been working great, i bought one "reformulated" Cascade box @ costco here in Mexico and noticed the change of design, but the change in performance was even clearer! Unfortunatelly, hard water is a more common situation around the world as we extract water depper and deeper. So, i just don't undersand how P&G released a "reformulated" formula having such a lousy performance :( I hope that you work your backs really hard an get a new formula for HARD WATER! Regards from Mexico."

I am sorry to hear you are getting a white film. Having hard water with the new phosphate free detergents can pose some issues. Tips to prevent this in the future:

*Try Action Pacs or All in 1 Pacs.
*Add a rinse aid like Cascade Crystal Clear.
*Water temperature should be at least 120 degrees F. Run hot water at kitchen sink before starting the cycle.
*To prevent low water pressure, run dishwasher when no other water is being used (showers, grass watering, washing machine).

Hope you find this information helpful. Please give us a call if you have additional questions.

Lost a customer after 30+ years

"I've used Cascade for over 30 years. After complaining about the white film left on dishes, I was sent a coupon for a free box of Cascade. I tried using it a few more times but finally gave up and pitched 2 boxes of Cascade in the garbage. A vinegar bath and some scrubbing revived most dishes and utensils. I've switched to "Finish". It does a good job and it's less expensive."

Powder Dish Disaster

"For the past 6 months, I switched to the powder formula for my dishes. Using powder has been a disaster...my pots are permanently spotted, my silverware is coated with a perment stained rough white coating, and all my plasticwear is permently coated with a thick white film...At this point, I have to buy new silverwear - as it is too permently ruined to use! Don't use the powder!"

I am sorry you are experiencing a white film. The residue you are reporting may be caused by the combination of hard water and the newly reformulated phosphate free Cascade. Starting in 2010 new state and local legislations require that all automatic dishwasher detergents contain no phosphate. So we removed phosphates to comply.

Here's how to remove film from your dishes:

1.Fill both detergent cups with white vinegar and run one wash cycle without adding detergent.
2.REMOVE ALL METAL ITEMS from the dishwasher first and wash them by hand. (Vinegar is too acidic for metal items, but is safe for stainless steel dishwasher interiors.) Then run the glasses/dishes through an entire cycle with no detergent.
3.Run through another cycle, using Cascade to remove any vinegar residue.

White Film Blues

"I understand that Cascade had to change its formula to comply with new regulations. But surely the undisputed technical leader in detergents can create a product that does not film? I suppose not. Very disappointed that P&G would market this."

What a mess!

"I used Cascade Complete for the first time two days ago. After the dishwasher was finished, I opened the door to find a white film over everything. Pots and pans had to be cleaned with a Brillo pad to remove the film. Silverware, dishes and glasses looked terrible. I ran the dishwasher again, and I used vinegar rather than soap in order to eliminate the film. Much of the film remained. Now I have a huge box of Cascade Complete that I will never use."

Cascade doesn't dissolve.

"The reformulated Cascade refuses to dissolve in my top of the line dishwasher. My glassware is covered in a hazy film and I even get specks of soap on my dishes. I have reduced by more than half the amount of soap I place in the dispenser and still I have leftover soap after each wash. I've also cranked the setting up on my hot water heater and it makes no difference! Prewashing and running an additional rinse cycle helps only moderately. Having used Cascade more or less exclusively over the past 12 years, I can trace my issues back to the removal of phosphates from the formula. I'm looking for a new product...and possibly, if I can't satisfactorily remove all the hardened soap residue from my dishwasher, I'll be replaceing it as well."

DISAPPOINTED

"What happened to the quality of Cascade? I even bought a $670 dishwasher thinking it was my dishwasher. But I was wrong. I even turned up the heat on my waterheater, and that didn't work. I have never tried another product, I don't even know the brands unless I go to the store and see them. The small amount of penut butter won't wash off the spatula. The coffee stains don't come off, the silverware has white stains on them ."

Not Happy

"I have used the original Cascade powder for over 20 years. In fact, I don't believe I have ever purchased anything else for my dishwasher. Until recently I have been very pleased with Cascade. However, I am no longer satisfied! Now, my dishes are not clean, all non-metal items have a white film on them, my silverware is spotty, my cutting boards have a - well I don't know how to describe it but something hard and white is on them that can't be scrubbed off with steel wool no matter how hard you try. I have cleaned my dishwasher, used the additive, run the water at the sink to get it hot before running the machine - nothing works. I am so disappointed and don't understand how this product made it out of the testing lab!"

Now I know why...

"Now I know why my dishes come out of the dishwasher completely cloudy. It started suddenly last September. I bought a new dishwasher in November, but there was absolutely no improvement. Now I know that P&G removed phosphates from the detergent formula at that time. I wish I could upload a picture of my glasses, bowls, silverware, and kitchen utinsels - all covered in white crud. I must use steel wool to remove the buildup from my glass-ware."

Cascade wins !

"My dishwasher manufacturer recommended Finish dishwasher soap and rinse agent. I have been using it for over a year with extremely poor results. I was getting streaks and film over all the glassware and silverware. I even went to the point of using white vinegar to clean the dishwasher thinking that something was wrong there. Then tonight I used Cascade powder and rinse agent. Well, let me tell you - I am NEVER going to use Finish again. The results were instantaneous ! No streaks, no film, even the dishwasher itself was spotless. From now on, it's only going to be Cascade products. Thank you."

White Deposit on Platstic Cooking Utensils

"Items are normally clean with the exception of plastic cooking utensils (spoons, spatulas, etc.). They come out with a white film which requires them to be manually washed with vinegar to remove the film. If I have to wash them by hand with vinegar, it defeats the purpose of the dishwasher."

"All of my dishes, pots, pans and utensils, which are a little bit over a year old, are covered in a white grime. Perhaps I was loading the dishes incorrectly? Or, perhaps my dishwasher was broken? Maybe I needed to use more rinse aid? I didn't suspect my detergent to be at fault. My family has used cascade for decades. It is a trusted product, and it has always kept our dishes clean.
After a little bit of internet research, I quickly found out that it was the detergent. All I can say is that I am thoroughly disappointed. The second after I submit this review, I am going to place the Cascade Complete Powder where it belongs: in the garbage (the box is still half way full)."

Lost in a whte haze

"Add me to the list of former Cascade buyers. We are really annoyed by the newly "white" plastic containers and the permanently stained stainless pots. We monkeyed around with quantities of detergent and rinse aids but the situation never improved. The reformulation is a failure and I will not buy your product again after having used it for about 20 years.
I agree with the need to remove phosphates from your products but it is as if you did not test your new formulation. P&G is an industry giant with numerous successful product so this is surprising.
I am not alone and I have talked to a number of folks in my area who are having the same problems. We are on the WSSC water system in the Maryland suburbs outside of Washington, DC."

I'm so sorry you're disappointed and as you know Cascade did recently undergo a formulation change to comply with state and local legislations that require that ALL automatic dishwasher detergents contain no phosphate. One benefit of Phosphates in dishwashing is its ability to help protect the surface of metals. With the removal of phosphates, discoloration on aluminum may now occur faster than before. It can be as fast as 1 wash when before it was over a longer period of time. You should always check the product labels and/or manufacturer of your pots and pans to make sure they are dishwasher safe before you clean them in your dishwasher. Be assured I'm sharing your feedback with the rest of our team.

"I have always used Cascade in the old dark green box. I was very satisified with that product. Then I bought Cascade with lemon. It discolored my aluminum pans, baking pans, and s.s. silverware. I have no idea how to clean them up. Now I have Cascade with Dawn and I am not happy with this product. What happened to the old Cascade (I am not able to find the old dark green box), I NEVER had a problem with that."
