Unhappy
"I have used Cascade and Dawn for a great number of years but I am sure that the Cascade action pacs have ruined my alumium pans. I have always put my bread pans and angel food cake pan in the dishwasher and they came out clean and shiney. Recently they came out black and unuseable. Why? How do I fix them? I called the number listed and got a very unsatisfactry explanation.
She insistated that my pans were not dishwasher safe and I needed to hand wash them in the future.

I'm sorry your aluminum pans are dark and no longer shiny. It is true that most raw aluminum is not dishwasher safe, Cascade is now phosphate-free as required by new legislations across the whole industry. One benefit of Phosphates in dishwashing is its ability to help protect the surface of metals. With the removal of phosphates, discoloration on aluminum may now occur faster than before. You should always check the product labels and/or manufacturer of your pots and pans to make sure they are dishwasher safe before you clean them in your dishwasher. While removal is difficult it is possible with the following steps:

1.Use a good aluminum (metal) polish on the pan.
2.Then boil a cream of tartar solution (2-3 tablespoons cream of tartar to1 quart water) in the pan for 15 minutes.
3.Finally, scrub with a soap pad

Also it may be helpful to know that it may not be pretty but discoloration does not affect the food being cooked.

Fully Disappointed
"I have the same complaint as most...the white residue, food is left behind, all our silverware is now anything but silver-looking. When a customer spends almost $20 for a product, we expect to get something that works. Regardless of the regulations changing to discontinue selling products with phosphates Cascade has to do something to change their formula because this one's not effective at all. I took my carton of 60 back to Wal-mart and I happened to find one last lone carton of 90 at Costco of the good stuff (that still has phosphates "ActionPacs with Dawn" 8.0% phosphates.) I'm so glad!!! That stuff is great and obviously discontinued.
This is a terrible detergent, bottom line. Don't buy it. More research and lab work obviously has to be done by P&G because this detergent is completely unacceptable.

"My Wife and I have used the old version of Cascade for years, And we were very satisfied with it's cleaning I liked the fact I could soak pots pans dishes ect. and they would get clean.
Since Cascade added Dawn to there product I have been very DISSATISFIED this stuff does not clean near as well as the old Cascade. I wish they would offer both products or switch back to the old version.

We appreciate your long term loyalty to Cascade, and I'm sorry you are dissatisfied with this version. Good news! We do still offer Cascade products without the additional Dawn added. You may want to give Cascade with Extra Bleach Action a try. It is available in both a gel and powder. We sure hope you will give one a try!

clean dishes
"This product is so easy to use and now that I'm loading the dishwasher and my husband, we are finding it very simple and love the cleanliness of all our dishes. Our last child is off to college this year, so, it's nice to have your dishwasher used less often, dishes placed in there, so, they get cleaned and it's just so easy!"

Non Satisfaction
"I have used Cascade powder since I purchased my dishwasher with good results until I purchased the Cascade action pacs with Dawn. For some reason about every third load the packet either does not drop from the holder or drops out and does not fully desolve, leaving residue on the door and on the bottom of the machine surface. The inside surface of the machine is dry as are my hands when I load the packet, to no avail. I cannot go on this way and I'm at my wit's end as to what to do. Can someone help me?"

I'm sorry your Cascade Action Pacs often don't dissolve completely. This is not what we would expect. The ActionPacs wrappers are actually made of a highly soluble material, just like translucent pill wrappers.
To prevent this:
You can toss pac into the bottom of dishwasher or into the utensil basket rather than putting it into the door dispenser.
Clean away any loose plastic from plates before adding to the dishwasher
Make sure no items are blocking the dishwasher sprayer arms.
Low water pressure. Be sure no other water is being used - like showers, grass watering, laundry machine.
Low water temperature. Shouldn't be below 120 degrees F, so before starting the cycle run hot water in the kitchen sink.
Store in a cool, dry place and use within a few months of purchase.
Don't store under the sink, especially if it is near the dishwasher.
Try these tips and see if that doesn't do the trick.

Dishes taste like soap!
"I have been using various gel pack dishwasher detergents for years. This is the first time I have had the experience that my dishes actually taste like dishsoap after being washed. It is very disappointing and I will not be buying this product in the future. I would like to get my money back as I bought it at a warehouse store and spent nearly $20 for this large container. This has happened on every load washed since purchasing this product."

I'm sorry your dishes have a soap taste while using Cascade. Some materials, like cast iron and plastic, can absorb flavors, especially if these items are soaked. For other items, taste should not remain if they're rinsed properly, whether by hand or in the dishwasher. This could mean that your dishwasher is not working properly, if you continue to have this occur.
To remove:
Fill both detergent cups with white vinegar and run one wash cycle without adding detergent.
REMOVE ALL METAL ITEMS from the dishwasher first and wash them by hand. Vinegar is too acidic for metal items, but is safe for stainless steel dishwasher interiors. Please also call us toll free at 1-800-765-5516, with your package handy so we can report this and assist you further.

cascade with shine shield leaves film
"I have used cascade powder for years with no issues. A couple weeks ago I picked up a new box with the new shine shield formula (not that I wanted a new formula when the old one worked great). Ever since we started using this product our plastic and silverware have a whitish film on them. I hate this new formula! I'm tossing the box and trying Cascade Complete. If that is no better I will have to pick a new company to buy from!"

It may be helpful to know that all dishwasher detergents, including Cascade, are now phosphate-free, as required by new legislations across the whole industry. We still wouldn't expect there to be a white film on any of your dishes. There are many factors that can lead to filming. I'm glad to hear that you are going to try our Cascade Complete Powder, which is known for helping to dissolve food particles so they rinse away clean without getting stuck on other dishes, leaving nothing behind but the shine! If you continue to have this problem, please let us know so we can help troubleshoot the issue!

Very unhappy
"To say I've used Cascade powder for years is an understatement. Years being 30 or more. After using Cascade powder with Dawn for a very short time I have ruined my pans and glassware. I've read all the reviews complaining about the etching and white staining........all I also have.. Your answers to all of them seem simple and sometimes different. That however, doesn't solve our problems. What a disappointment in a company we've all trusted for years."

Wow, thanks for 30 years of loyalty to Cascade. As a longtime customer I'm sure you have come to expect the quality we are used to providing. While our products did recently undergo a formulation change to comply with state and local legislations that require that automatic dishwasher detergents contain no phosphate. Cascade products are still formulated to deliver the excellent performance. We're always happy to help, when our consumers have issues while using Cascade. Please call us with your product in hand so we can assist you. We're here 9am-6pm EST. 1-800-765-5516.

Soap residew - Ewwwww
"I have to say I am very disappointed in these ActionPacs. I spend so much time after running the dishwasher just rinsing off the soap residue left on anything plastic. At that point, I would have been better off washing by hand.
I have used Cascade products for years and now am going to try the competition.

"I have been buying the Cascade ActionPacs with Dawn from Costco for over a year. Up until the last two purchases I was fairly satisfied with the product. Within the past year I purchased some All Clad stainless steel cookware that is dishwasher safe. Up until the last purchase of the ActionPacs it cleaned beautifully in the dishwasher. Now the pacs do not disolve, the cookware comes out black and blue and the glassware is becoming etched. I have read the last few reviews of this product and am very disappointed in the response from Cascade representatives. Their solution to the problem? Clean some more with a different product - boil cream of tartar in the pan and scrub. PLEASE!! This product is flawed. Acknowledge it and correct it. Do not keep saying we need to clean more. Isn't that why we have dishwashers and bought your product? To save time....and theoretically money? I am not buying this product any more and unfortunately am going to throw away what I have left of the box I bought from Costco. Cascade needs to own up and fix the problem. I will NOT recommend this product to anyone."

I'm sorry you have some in that condition. That does sound messy! We make every effort to make sure the product arrives to you in perfect condition. The pouch is water soluble, so it's possible they could stick together if they get wet. The best way to prevent them from sticking is
•Keep hands dry when handling.
•Keep countertops dry where the ActionPacs may be set.
•Store in cool, dry place (not under sink, especially if near dishwasher)
•Keep bag closed between uses
If they were stuck together when you purchased them, something may have happened during shipping. Please call us using the toll free number on the back of the product. We are here to help!

White Cake
"I am a lover of white cake...but not when it's the white soapy cake that is left on my dishes when I use this product. Every time I've used this stuff...it leaves white spots, streaks and cakey residue on my dishes. I've tried being patient and wiping off the residue with a damp cloth or towel before I put all my dishes away...WELL...NO MORE!!! I've never had this problem with Sunlight Dish Tablets...and will give them all my future purchases...Satisfaction...POOR...Cleaning...well, I suppose it cleans, but then I have to clean the mess these tablets make...Convenience...um, all you have to do is put a tablet in the dishwasher...duh...Shine??? Shining with white residue...FUN TO USE??? This is seriously a rating review???"

Destroyed our Aluminum
"We switched to Cascade Action Packs with Dawn, and the new formula absolutely destroyed our antique and new aluminum cookware. We have been using the gel and powder Cascade products for over 50 years, and Aluminum has been fine. Do not use if you value your aluminum pots and pans. They will turn black and blue, and will rust immediately (black powdery residue that gets all over your hands when you touch). Cant wit to hear what Cascade tells me."

Thanks for your decades of loyalty to Cascade. I hate to hear your antique cookware is black and rusting. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. While rust can't be restored you may be able to remove some discoloration. Discoloration is difficult to remove but possible. Try these steps:
1.Use a good aluminum (metal) polish on the pan.
2.Then boil a cream of tartar solution (2-3 tablespoons cream of tartar to1 quart water) in the pan for 15 minutes.
3.Finally, scrub with a soap pad.

In the future it may be helpful to know raw aluminum baking-ware, pots and pans (interior and exterior) are NOT dishwasher-safe. Coated aluminum cookware (non-stick cookware) is typically ok to put in dishwashers; however, some cookware is only coated on the interior; these partially coated products are NOT dishwasher-safe. If in doubt about whether the exterior is coated or not and whether your pots and pans are dishwasher safe, always check with the manufacturer of your pots and pans to see if both the exterior and interior are coated and that it is indeed dishwasher-safe. I hope the removal method helps with your pans. Glad you reported your experience.

What happened to Cascade?
"I have used Cascade for as long as I can remember without any real issues. I've been more than satisfied with the results of the cleaning, up until my recent purchase of this product. This is the first time I've bought Cascade with Shine Shield Formula. It leaves a white powdery residue on all of my dishes (especially plastic) and also on my stainless steel. It's very disappointing. I've tried using less (1/2) to see if it would help with the residue problem, but it has not. My house is 7 years old and has a large water filtration system. I don't know what to say other than I hope my local BJ's begins to carry the original brand again. I'm going to try to finish this nearly 10 lb. box, but if the dishes get any worse, I'm going to have to try something else. I feel like I've been duped by this company. I never thought I would have so much difficulty with a dish detergent. I have a Miele dishwasher which usually does an excellent job until I started using this box of detergent. My sister had tried the same detergent in her dishwasher and had even worse problems with it. Her water is hard and the combination of the soap residue and the hard water has left her dishes that must be scrubbed with steel wool to remove the residue. Ridiculous."

I'm so sorry to hear about this. As a long time Cascade user, I am glad that you know this is not typical. The easiest way to remove the film all at once, is to fill both detergent cups with white vinegar and run one wash cycle without adding detergent. (make sure to remove all metal items from the dishwasher first). Then run the dishes through an entire cycle with no detergent, and then run through another cycle, using Cascade to remove any vinegar residue. Actually, using less Cascade will only add to the problem. To avoid residue, it is important to use enough detergent to prevent the particles from resettling on the dishes. I would try filling both cups to make sure this doesn't happen. Please let us know if this doesn't resolve the matter. Your satisfaction is important to us!

Hard to use box
"Cascade with Dawn works great. However, the new spout design that has a sprout you have to cut out makes the product hard to use. Also, with no metal spout to pour with makes the product control difficult. Then you have to figure out how to store the box without the soap spilling out. An older person will have a tough time getting at the soap. For these reasons we will be purchasing another brand in the future, unless in the future you go back to the metal, easy pouring ( and storing ) spout.
Sincerely,
M. Andersen

Absolutely Terrible
"I normally used the all in 1 action pacs, however I sent my son in to pick up a container. Last container I purchased was an 85 count. Unfortunately my son purchased the 60 cascade action pacs with dawn. After the first use and the pac not totally disbursing I assumed I did something wrong and retried it several times for the same results. Film on dishes and not completely clean and the pac does not fully open. What a waste of money and customer satisfaction and confidence. Will never use them again! You have lost a customer."

I have been "Lucky"
"I have just switched from Cascade Powder to Cascade Action Packs. Imagine my surprise when my Grandmothers aluminum pan and measuring cup (both older then me @ 55) came out BLACK from the first time use of this product. Both of these items have been washed in the dishwasher for as long as I can remember with regular Cascade powder. First use with Cascade Action Packs and they are BLACK! When I contacted Cascade, they stated it was not their product, that I had "been lucky" that it had not happened in the past. Who knew?
Accordng to Cascade or Proctor and Gamble aluminum is not dishwahser safe. I have been washing that same pan (it's on it's second handle) and that measuring cup in the dishwasher with regular Cascade powder for as long as I can remember and it has never turned black, but the first time I used Cascade Action packs it turned black, I guess I am really "Lucky."

How frustrating! Cascade is now now phosphate-free, as required by new legislations across the whole industry. Unfortunately, with the removal of phosphates, discoloration on aluminum may now occur faster than before. It’s important to check with the manufacturer of pots & pans to make sure they are dishwasher safe. The discoloration is difficult to remove, but you may have some success using the following methods:
1. Use a good aluminum (metal) polish on the pan.
2. Then boil a cream of tartar solution (2-3 tablespoons cream of tartar to1 quart water) in the pan for 15 minutes.
3. Finally, scrub with a soap pad.
For interior aluminum, cooking an acidic food (like tomatoes or rhubarb) in the pan may restore the appearance of the aluminum. Luckly, the discoloration des not affect the food being cooked. Thanks so much for your feedback!
